Our Beliefs

Most Christians say that they believe what the Bible says.  But disagreements abound, regarding what it means. The Bible is very clear in some things, and in other matters not so clear – it even says this of itself (2 Peter 3:16). In 2 Tim. 2:15 we read, “Study to show yourself approved…rightly handling the word of truth;” which wouldn’t be said if understanding all of it were easy. The ARP denomination website has a section called “What We Believe,” (just click on that) which is good. In the last paragraph of that page, you can click on the underlined words, there, to access another page which will show you the “Confession of Faith” (i.e. the Westminster Confession of Faith) the Shorter Catechism and the Larger Catechism as well as some other resources.

From the Westminster Confession of Faith, I copied the following words, which is relevant to what I said above, regarding the clarity of Scriptural meaning:

WFC Ch. 1.7 All things in Scripture are not alike plain in themselves, nor alike clear unto all;p yet those things which are necessary to be known, believed, and observed, for salvation, are so clearly propounded and opened in some place of Scripture or other, that not only the learned, but the unlearned, in a due use of the ordinary means, may attain unto a sufficient understanding of them.q
